Thomas Jefferson while in office did many great things with the country but had a few minor flaws, becuase of this I would have to give him a rating of a B. Some wonderful things he did for America was the Lousiana Purchase and almost cutting the national debt by a third. His only flaws during office would have to be the Nonimportation Act of 1806 and the Embargo Act of 1807.
Thomas Jefferson's main goals he wanted to while at the head of the country were cut the expenditures of the federal government and to cut down some of the powers of the judiciary branch which he felt the Federalists were kind of putting thier own beliefs into. He also was intrested in exploration which led to the Lewis and Clark Expedition and eventually the Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase was he most important thing he accomplished in office because it nearly doubled the land size of the U.S. He was also able to successfully cut the expenditures of the federal government and even cut the debt of the country down by almost one third.
Jefferson had a fairly good relationship with congress during his term as President. The major legislations that were passed during the time were the Nonimportation Acts and the Embargo Acts. These were extremely unpopular at the time because they were placing high restriction with whom the states were allowed to do trade with.
The most positive outcome of the Jefferson adminstration would have to be the Louisiana Purchase which was purchased from Napolean and the French. This was major because it expanded our country greatly. Although Jefferson worried this was not inside his powers as President he continued with it out of a greater fear of Napolean and France. This went over with great approval except for the Federalists in the New England region. The most negative outcome of his administration was the Embargo Act of 1807. This was created because of the attacks on American ships by the British and French who were at war. Jefferson then created this act saying that America would completely cease trade to and from American ports. This was upsetting to the people because it took away individual liberties that he so strongly wanted to preserve.
What Jefferson and his administration did during his term had a huge impact on the future of America. What he accomplished by expanding the size of the U.S. through the Louisiana Purchase was huge becuase it gave America more land to settle presented new opportunities that were unavailable to those before his term as President.
Thomas Jefferson happening to America was a great thing. The country was in a very advantageous position after his terms in office. The only thing that brought him down to a B rating was his acts on trade during the time of war between Britain and France. But he should be remembered as a superb president who did many good things for the country.
